Rotties Are My Favorite Breed of Dog

by Kelly
(USA)

My favorite of the purebred dog breeds is the Rottweiler. I have found out that they are smart, have a sense of humor, and tend to be loyal. These dogs are descended from dog breeds used by Roman armies both as dogs of war and also cattle herders.

I have two rescued Rottweilers (Rotties for short) that a friend was going to take to the pound because he refused to pay the fine for rabies shots. The male, Boots, is a happy, dumb, silly dog. The female, Smokey, is calm, sneaky, and sweet. Both are about 9 yrs old, which is rather old for a dog that size.

I remember one day when my boyfriend accidentally set fire to his car engine, and came running into the dog pen to get the bucket of water that they drink out of. Both dogs ended up coming into the house while I was filling another bucket of water. Boots decided it was playtime and knocked stuff over. Smokey walked quietly to the bathroom, looked around the door and had this expression of "Oh, there you are. I was looking for you!" and then wandered off and hopped on the couch.

Keep in mind these two dogs are outdoor dogs. Boots was easy to get back into the pen, but Smokey can be stubborn and it was a chore to get her back. I think she figured that once she got into the house, she could stay there. I was amazed that she calmly walked into the house while my boyfriend and I were scrambling for water! Shes a sweetie, and if I have a choice of purebreed dogs, I would get a Rottweiler again.
