Our Papillon Digger Is a "Toyaholic"

by Terri
(NC, USA)

I have a Papillion named Digger. His breed won AKC pure-breed contest a few years ago. He has three different favorite toys. I don’t know the actually names of the first two, but I will mention what we called them and describe them to the best of my ability.

The first toy was his rag bone. It was a twisted fabric type bone with a knot at either end. There are a few ways that he would play with it. If he is playing alone he would hold on end and move it back and forth in his mouth. Or he would throw it on the ground and jump on top of it.

If we were able to get it away from him he would jump up on his hind legs to try to get it back from us. When we decided to throw it he would chase after it and sometimes bring it back to us. The other times he would run away with it as to tease us to try to get it away from him.

The second toy that he played with the most we called his tribble (Star Trek reference). It was this fuzzy ball of fleece type toy. He would grab this ball in his mouth and run around with it. He would come over to you and whimper until you tried to grab the ball from him and then he would run away. This would repeat until you got down on the ground and wrestled it away from him. After that you could tease him with it or throw it for him to fetch it.

One of his favorite toys was a bouncy ball. It was entertaining to watch him play with it. Nothing got him more excited then playing with a bouncy ball. If you threw it on a hard surface he would bounce up with it and try to catch it in his mouth. Sometimes he did and the other times he just chased it like a fool.
