Our Mashed Potato Loving Dalmatian is Our Best Friend!

by Terri
(Alpharetta, GA)

My husband and I had decided to buy a purebred and internationally recognized breed of dog, three years back.

We had requested our friend who is a Vet, to inform us if and when he could help us locate the perfect puppy we were looking for. We did not specify any particular breed, as we were both open to any purebred variety.

One fine day our friend called and asked us come over to his clinic. He just said that he had three puppies that have come up for sale and the mother was regularly attended to by him.

So, my husband and I went over to the clinic and our friend showed us three Dalmatian puppies. Two of them were fully black-spotted while the third one that caught our eye had very little spots except on both the ears which had mild brown dots.

On close examination, we found that the puppy had mild brown spots under the belly and near the paws too. It was love at first sight for me and my husband was also very happy to select him as he was very different.

Our friend, the Vet, told us that he was the first born of the litter and the light brown dots were inherited from the father, who was also light-brown dotted.

We picked him up and he has become an integral part of our lives ever since. We named our Dalmatian 'Lucky'. As a puppy, Lucky was very shy and took nearly a week to start responding to our calls but he has become such an important part of our lives.

As both my husband and I are working, my mother, who is staying with us takes care of him during the day but the minute my husband or I return , he is always besides us. He loves playing with the frisbee and every weekend we take him to the beach, where he loves chasing the frisbee. He is quite energetic and unless we decide to stop, he is ready to chase down the frisbee again.

Strangely, he is not too fond of meat or chicken foods. He loves mashed potatoes and carrots. He has become so attached to us that my husband and I have cancelled many trips where both of us would be away.

He is two years and seven months old and he is slightly overweight according to our Vet friend but as long as he is happy and comfortable, we love the way he is.
