Our dog groomer is worth her weight in gold
by John
I have three male poodles varying in age from twelve years to four years of age. They all love going to the groomer every eight weeks. Their groomer is also a poodle breeder, she bred the oldest of my boys, Monty.
The groomer's name is Betty. If I so much as mention Betty's name around my dogs they start whining excitedly, as if they're saying 'come on, what are we waiting for, let's go!'.
I personally think my dogs are not very well behaved. They jump all over me, make a mess of my house and furniture and basically do as they please. Whenever I collect them from Betty's she always describes them as 'the best behaved dogs in town.'
I often wonder what it is that she has that I don't. I think its a firm voice and lots of treats. The dogs stay at Betty’s all day. They have a fabulous time seeing all her other clients and meeting any new puppies that happen to have been born since their last visit. Providing their mother’s don’t mind of course.
When I collect them at the end of the day they always look beautiful. I hardly recognize them as the messy animals I delivered that morning. Betty often ties bows in their hair or around their necks. The bows are always lovely colors, and they all match. Sometimes in the centre of each bow is a matching bead.
On very special occasions she will paint their toenails in a corresponding color. My mother always comments that they are ‘boy dogs’ and thinks they look too effeminate with bows and painted nails. I think they enjoy the attention and like looking good.
It will be a sad day if Betty ever gives up grooming dogs and my dogs can no longer visit her. She loves those dogs and they love her right back. She works so hard and makes them look so handsome. She is worth her weight in gold.
