Our best fuzzy waiter, our Lab Muddy

by Beth
(SC, USA)

Our favorite dog is our purebred Labrador retriever Muddy. Muddy was given to us as an 8 month old puppy because she was so bouncy, exuberant and, well, totally out of control.

At 8 months old she weighed a hefty 90 lbs. She has now blossomed into a 110 lb almost calm, beautiful and smart Labrador that has learned several tricks.

Her most impressive trick is to “get daddy a beer.” Muddy will actually ask to do this trick. A sock is put on the door of the refrigerator (woe to the forgetful human who does not remove it after!). A beer and a treat are put in an oven mitt and placed in the refrigerator (sometimes several at once).

Daddy, comfortably located in the living room chair, will say “Muddy! Get daddy a beer!” Muddy will jump up from anywhere in the house (usually a comfy spot on the sofa near the fire), run to the refrigerator, open it, grab the mitt, and bring it to daddy. Muddy gets a treat, daddy gets a beer, and mommy gets to set the whole thing up again.

Muddy has thoughtfully learned to return the mitt to mommy, usually located somewhere in the kitchen, in order to get another treat. She has us well trained.
