Odo, My Miniature Poodle

by Freda

Cute little Odo

Cute little Odo

My dog is a miniature purebred poodle. His name is Odo, named after a character in Star Trek. Odo will be thirteen years old on June 12.

I am 69 years old and he is the first dog that I have ever owned. Really, my little poodle Odo owns me. He is very hyper like all small purebred dog breeds.

We really had to get used to each other when he came to my home to live. He doesn't do tricks and he doesn't like to be groomed. But he likes to sit close to me on the sofa. And if I am feeling down, he brings me great comfort.

He loves the outdoors, especially if there is a dog outside nearby. Even if it is snowing outside, he wants to be out there. He just loves to run over and over through the snow. And he simply loves taking his daily walks. If I say the word "walk", his tail starts wagging and he just stares at me. Odo wants his leash.

He will chase squirrels as far as his leash will extend. And he loves to stop and look at other dogs in their yards. Then we go home and he brushes by the cats, as if to say, "I've been outside doing very important things. You just wouldn't understand, cats". Then, he wants his me to award him his treat. I hope that I have brought as much enjoyment to his life as he has to mine.
