My husband's birthday present, a mini Dachshund

I would like to tell you about my husband's birthday present that became the best present "I" ever received in my life. First of all, I need to tell you, I am a middle aged female that never owned a dog.
It's not that I didn't LIKE dogs, I just never felt the need to own one. My husband wanted a dog for his birthday and the dog he wanted was a purebreed Dachshund. So, we began our own personal search.
I was very skeptical at first and actually continued to be unsure of the whole idea up until and including after we picked our mini Doxie up from the purebreed dog breeders. She literally fit in the palm of our hands when we brought her home.
Very soon she became a part of the family. So much so, that we turned into THOSE people that take their dogs to the Ice Cream stand and buy them ice cream cones. In fact, it has become a ritual now, after a trip to the vets for nail trimming, our Doxie is treated to an ice cream cone and we now refer to this as "Spa Day".
This particular purebreed dog, the Dachshund by nature is a very protective, "it's all about me" type of animal. Her antics are amusing and I would recommend the movie from the 60's called "The Ugly Dachshunds" if you have never seen dachshunds in full operation. The story I would like to share with you will be most appreciated by other Dachshund owners.
This 12 pound bundle of joy that is now a permanent part of our family takes turns between me and my husband. One night she is all about me, the next night, I don't exist. When we are all sitting on the couch, it is quite amusing to see which way the dog is facing. The person that is not in our favorite little dog's graces gets the rear of the dog pointed towards them. We laugh and refer to this as "tonight you get the butt".
If there are any good night kisses to be shared with my husband, our dog jumps up (literally) between the two of us and starts kissing my husband on the face. She tends to usually be a little.... no wait... a lot jealous. But we love her and would not trade her for any other purebreed dog in the world.
