My favorite breed of dog is the Black Labrador Retriever

by Mike
(USA)

My favorite breed of dog is the Black Labrador Retriever, mostly because they're so generous with their tail wagging. Sounds like an odd and maybe even trivial reason to love a breed, but until you've seen a friendly Lab's tail in action you won't realize how often and how long they'll keep it wagging.

My current dog, Butch, is typical. He'll give me a steady wag every time I walk by, no matter how many times he's seen me. Even when lying on his side he'll whack the floor with his tail anytime I come around. Amazingly, sometimes all it takes is a quick glance from across the room to set him off.

This is such a contrast with other breeds that will barely acknowledge that you're around. I also love how a Lab is always willing to take part in any outdoor activity. Butch is overjoyed when he sees someone putting on their boots and any clothing that hints at a trip into the field or woods. Doesn’t matter what you’re heading out to do, he’s ready and willing to be part of the action.

Another interesting thing about Labs is that cold weather and even freezing water doesn’t seem to bother them. Butch will leap into open water any time of the year, which can get to be a problem when you have to deal with a soaking wet dog in the middle of winter.
