can be even more complicated! Does the following story sound familiar to you? Singles everywhere struggle every day to find their perfect match with whom to spend their lives. Throw in a dog (or in my case, two!), and everything gets exponentially more complicated whenever I even think about dating. For this story I should start somewhere a little more concrete, I guess. I’ve been single for four years. Prior to that, I had a girlfriend of three-years with whom I bought a beautiful pair of golden retriever pups. Now they’re my grown-up big boys and, as adorable as I think they are, they’re severely hindering my luck in the world of romance. It's really hard to find your perfect match . The problem is that when I do go on dates, they get broken into two categories: Dogs First and Dogs Later. If I meet someone at, say, the dog park, then they know I have the dogs and they probably have the dogs, too. So right from the beginning I can bring the dogs out, maybe even make the date at a park or something. But then what happens is, on the off-chance that I hit it off with the girl, our dogs don’t get along so well. On the other hand, if I'm looking to meet singles and if they don’t know I have the dogs, I try not to scare them off by sending them in too early. So even when I describe how much I love the dogs, some girls don’t actually understand until they see the dogs, and a lot of women I try to date are turned off by the big lugs. And there’s one other little trouble for me with dogs and dating. Remember how I bought the dogs with my ex-girlfriend? Big strike with a lot of ladies. They think the dogs represent an unbreakable connection with my previous love, and they want me to get rid of them to show I’m ready to move forward. Of course, when it comes down to a tug-of-war between a pretty face I just met or a doggie duo that has been there with me for years and years, I think you can guess who ends up getting the boot. Dating with your dogs can be tricky; certainly trickier than dating alone. But really, at the end of the night, if it didn’t work out with the girl, at least I have two big, furry smiling faces to come home to that are always happy to see me.
