A member of the Hound Group, The Whippet was originally bred to

pursue and capture small game.

These dogs are a quiet and intelligent breed.

Generally speaking they do not bark unnecessarily and are very adaptable, fitting in well with children, other dogs, and even cats.

They are a hardy, tough, swift, and powerful athlete with a stable and steady disposition. Additionally, they can be aloof and may bark at strangers as they can become protective of their home.

Amiable, friendly, and gentle, but capable of great intensity during sporting pursuits, they are very friendly with family and those they know.

Dressed in short, smooth coats, this breed is a medium-sized sighthound giving the appearance of elegance and fitness, denoting great speed, power, and balance without coarseness. These dogs are truly a true sporting hound that covers a maximum of distance with a minimum of lost motion.

Males are 19-22 inches tall, while females are 18-21 inches tall. The best home for these dogs is inside with their family and when outside in a fenced area or on a leash.
