Tibetan Mastiff Purebred
Dog Breed Information

Tibetan Mastiff

Description

The Tibetan Mastiff, a new member of the Working Group group, is

a highly intelligent, independent, strong willed and a rather reserved dog and has been used primarily as a family and property guardian for many years.

He is an ancient breed - aloof and watchful of strangers, and is also highly protective of its people and property and maintains a large, powerful, heavy structure.

The breed came close to extinction around the 1950's. The exportation that occured in the 1960's and 1970's helped pave the way for the breed to come back into a better population, number wise.

This dog breed originated in Tibet as a guard dog and flock dog . They make an excellent family protector.

A large breed, these Mastiffs can weight between 150-200 pounds and do require frequent grooming and moderate daily exercise. They are well muscled, with much substance and bone, but maintain a solemn but kindly appearance.
