Sussex Spaniel - Purebred
Dogs and Puppies

Sussex Spaniel

Description

A member of the Sporting group, The Sussex Spaniel was among the

first ten breeds to be recognized and admitted when the American Kennel Club was formed in 1884, but it has existed as a distinct breed for much longer.

It is the longest and lowest of all the Spaniel breeds.

The Sussex loves the freedom of the country, but will easily fit in as a city dog as long as he is given plenty of exercise.

It is a loving, devoted companion, especially for families with children.

The Sussex places his family and friends first and is somewhat cautious with strangers. Once you are accepted as the friend of a Sussex you will have a friend for life.

The rich golden liver color is unique to the breed and it's coat requires a fair amount of grooming every week. Its short legs, massive build, long body, and habit of giving tongue when on scent makes the breed ideally suited to penetrating dense undergrowth and flushing game within range of the gun.

Strength, maneuverability, and desire were essential for The Sussex to complete this purpose.

Country of origin: England
Lifespan: 12-15 years
Colors: Golden liver
Known health problems: Ear infections, obesity, heart murmur, enlarged heart
