A member of the Sporting group,The Spinone Italiano is an excellent retriever by nature. The Spinone is considered to be a very ancient breed that can be traced back to approximately 500 BC.
A muscular dog with powerful bone, The Spinone is vigorous and robust, and his purpose as a hardworking gun dog is very evident. It can often be found used for hunting, pointing, and retrieving game.
His hard textured coat is weather resistant - his wiry, dense coat and thick skin enable the Spinone to negotiate underbrush and endure cold water that would severely punish any dog not so naturally armored.
