Scotland as a fierce hunter of foxes and badgers. The Scottie is a small, compact, short-legged, sturdily-built dog of good bone and substance. In the 1930s Scotties were one of the most popular pets in U.S. households. They are also renowned for being featured in the board game, Monopoly, as a player token. His head is long in proportion to his size and he has a hard, wiry, weather-resistant coat and a thick-set, cobby body which is hung between short, heavy legs. These characteristics, joined with his very special keen, piercing, "varminty" expression, and his erect ears and tail are important features of the breed.

The Scottie is an absolutely dependable and loyal dog, but may sometimes appear aloof and independent. It is also very sensitive and will make a good pet for someone who understands his fiesty nature. The Scottie's bold, confident, dignified aspect exemplifies power in a very small package. The breeds nickname is "little diehard", given to them by the Earl of Dumbarton in the 19th century. This Earl had a famous pack of Scotties that were so brave in fact that they were named “Diehards”. Country of origin: Scotland
