Scottish Terrier - Purebred Dogs and Puppies
A member of the AKC Terrier group, The Scottish Terrier was bred in Scotland as a fierce hunter of rats, foxes and badgers. The Scottie is a small, compact, short-legged, sturdily-built dog of good bone and substance. In the 1930s Scotties were one of the most popular pets in U.S. households.
His head is long in proportion to his size and he has a hard, wiry, weather-resistant coat and a thick-set, cobby body which is hung between short, heavy legs. These characteristics, joined with his very special keen, piercing, "varminty" expression, and his erect ears and tail are all important features of the breed.
Scotties stand 9 to 10 inches in height at the shoulder and weighs between 18 to 22 pounds. This breed needs daily brushing - especially his beard. He also needs professional clipping about every 3 months. They are also renowned for being featured in the board game, Monopoly, as a player token.

The Scottie is an absolutely dependable and loyal dog, but may sometimes appear aloof and independent. It is also very sensitive and will make a good pet for someone who understands his fiesty nature. Socialization is critical.
The Scottish Terriers bold, confident, dignified aspect exemplifies power in a very small package. The breeds nickname is "little diehard", given to them by the Earl of Dumbarton in the 19th century. This Earl had a famous pack of Scotties that were so brave in fact that they were named “Diehards”.
The Scottie needs to be walked several times per day. This dog breed is very energetic and busy and requires plenty of regular exercise. They can be good watchdogs and tends to be a 1 or 2 person dog. Overall, they can be very suspicious of strangers, and, be forewarned, can be very dog-aggressive and are not generally the ideal dog breed to have in a household filled with children.
