Puli Purebred Dog
Breed Information

Puli

Description

A member of the Herding Group, the Puli has been part of the

lives of Hungarian shepherds for more than 1,000 years.

Its long, corded coat is a definite characteristic of this breed.

The unique corded coat begins to form around the age of 6 months.

Many shepherds seemed to prefer these black dogs probably because they were easier to see among the rest of the flock, though their coat colors also come in white and apricot.

It must be stressed this coat is a big job which an owner MUST be devoted to. A heavily coated dog can take up to an hour to bathe and may take up to 3 days to air dry and six hours plus to dry with the use of a blow dryer.

A herding and droving dog, this breed is prized for its light, agile movement. They are a sensitive, one person or one family dog breed who makes an intensely devoted companion.

The Puli dog breed is very energetic, intelligent and makes for a good watchdog and family pet.

The unique coat is dense and profuse and either wavy or curly. If allowed to develop, the coat will form natural cords. If you let your dogs coat develop cords, the dog does not require brushing, but must still be groomed.

Country of origin: Hungary
Lifespan: 10-12 years
Colors: Black, gray, apricot (with or without a black mask), white (rare)
Known health problems: Hip dysplasia
