Pointer - Purebred
Dogs and Puppies

A member of the AKC Sporting group, The Pointer is bred primarily for sport afield; he should unmistakably look and act the part of a hunting dog.

Here is an animal whose every movement shows him to be a wide-awake, hard-driving hunting dog possessing stamina, courage, and the desire to go-go-go. In his expression are the loyalty and devotion of a true friend and companion of man - they are agile and athletic.

They are gentle with children, which makes them a wonderful family dog. Because they require a lot of exercise, this is not a breed recommended for a small city apartment. The coat is easy to take care of; just a couple of minutes of grooming a day will give it a healthy shine.

Pointer

Sometimes these dogs are also called the English Pointer and they are one of the most incredibly athletic dog breeds known today. They are indeed the best equipment a hunter can have. Not only are they trim and muscular, but they are also graceful, happy, intelligent and the total embodiment of a hunting dog breed.

Their even temperament and alert good sense make him a congenial companion both in the field and in the home. He should be dignified and should never show timidity toward man or dog.

Pointers were the first dog used to stand game. They seem to acquire the hunting instinct at around 2 months of age. Males are usually 55-75 pounds and 25-28 inches tall, females a bit smaller.

Country of origin: England
Lifespan: 12-15 years
Colors: Liver, lemon, black and orange, solid or in combination with white
Known health problems: Hip dysplasia, thyroid problems, entropion, skin cysts, epilepsy, dwarfism, cataracts, deafness
