Plott Hound Purebred
Dog Breed Information

The Plott Hound, a new member of the AKC Hound Group, is an alert, intelligent, and confident hunter. They are well known for their stamina, endurance, agility, and determination, as well as boldness, fearlessness and aggressiveness when hunting. This powerful, well-muscled, and streamlined hound combines courage with athletic ability. They need a lot of physical exercise.

Built for anything, they even possess webbed feet. They are great family pets and do well with all members of the family - even children, but socialization is highly recommended.

Plott Hound

Their coat is very smooth, hard and dense. It is also fairly fine in texture.

The Plott's skin should not be baggy like the bloodhound. Color-wise, any shade of brindle is acceptable as well as small patches of white.

Early socialization and obedience training are advised. FYI, they do tend to drool and slobber. This dog breed originated in the mountains of North Carolina in the United States around the mid 1700's. They are an American dog breed through and through. It is also the state dog breed of North Carolina.
