PBGV / Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen
Purebred Dog Information

The PBGV is a member of the Hound Group. Petit Bassett Griffon Vendéens have only been known in the United States since the 1980s.

Because of their raggedy, scruffy good looks, small size, and sparky personality they have won many admirers. They are also very happy and very independent little dogs.

Although a scent hound, he is much more like a terrier - curious and busy, determined and smart needing plenty of exercise and attention.

Overall, longer than tall, both sexes should measure 13-15 inches tall at the withers. The double coat should be "natural" in look and a lot of grooming is not needed as with some other breeds.

The Petit Bassett Griffon Vendéens are good family dogs and will demand attention if their owner does not give it to them. They are generally good with other dogs however they should not be trusted with non-canine pets.

A bored or lonely dog will make up it's own "entertainment " if not provided with appropriate entertainment so make sure they have lots of toys, chews and the like to keep them busy.

Country of origin: France
Lifespan: 14 or more years
Colors: White with black, tri-color, grizzle, yellow or orange markings

"I like dogs better [than people]. They give you unconditional love. They either lick your face or bite you, but you always know where they're coming from. With people, you never know which ones will bite. The difference between dogs and men is that you know where dogs sleep at night." - Greg Louganis
