Norfolk Terrier

Description

A member of the Terrier group, The Norfolk Terrier is a small,

sturdy, alert, and fearless dog with sporting instincts and an even temperament.

Additionally, they are one of the smallest of the working terriers. They can be distinguished from the Norwich Terrier by its "drop", or folded ears.

The Norfolk is a game and hardy little dog that was originally bred to go to ground after vermin and bred to hunt in packs.

Norfolks are people-oriented dogs and do not like to be left alone. This breed is very alert, gregarious, fearless, loyal, and has great charm.

The Norfolk should not be let off of their lead unless inside a secure area. They are fairly active indoors and will do fine in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. They can be difficult to housebreak.

Generally speaking, they do get along well with other household pets when introduced to them as a puppy. Typically their temperament is spirited, happy, and self confident - their courage is incredible.

Their shaggy, medium-length, waterproof coat is relatively easy to take care of but daily combing and brushing is very important. The Norfolk should be brushed weekly to keep its coat neat.

Country of origin: England
Lifespan: 12-14 years
Colors: Red, grizzle, wheaten, tan, black & tan
Known health problems: Generally a hardy breed
