Non-sporting Group - Utility Group Purebred Dogs and Puppies
The different purebred dog types in the AKC non-sporting group (also known as the Utility Group) are a wide collection of dogs in all types of sizes, shapes, personalities, coat types and overall appearances. At one time, members of this group consisted of all dogs who did not hunt.
The varied dog breeds included in this dog breed group are here mainly because the AKC did not feel that they could easily be classified into any of the other dog breed groups - many people call this a "catch-all" group. To further complicate matters, not all countries include the same dog breeds in this group. For example, in the U.S. the Akita is classified as a working breed while in Britain they are classified as a utility breed.

The membership of this group contains big dogs, little dogs and some of the finest companion dogs you'll ever possibly own. This group also contains some of America's favorite dog breeds. Our dog breed directory is designed to present you information about each of these different non-sporting breeds, and to also help you choose the best type of dog for you. Feel free to browse around to research for your perfect canine friend.

"Many dog owners believe that as much as 60 percent of their pet's brain is set aside solely to demonstrate applications of the verb "to eat" — in both the active and passive forms." -- Stanley Coren
