March 07 Dog Breed of the Month - Brittany
March 07 Dog Breed of the Month - Brittany
Bred for stamina in the field, it has boundless energy and enthusiasm and absolutely needs obedience training. Brittany's are not high maintenance dogs, they only need to be brushed a few times a week. The Brittany wants to please you and to be pleased as well. This is a very alert and instinctive dog - especially in the field.

• Pointing comes very naturally to this dog breed, however learning not to rush in and flush the bird takes much more training. • The Brittany came to the U.S. in the 1930's. • Brittany's are prized for working well with others, even novice hunters. • Brittanys have a very sweet personality and are considered a "soft breed', if you yell at this dog it'll cower - positive reinforcement is the best form of training. • In some theories, this breed is said to be both spaniel and setter. • Brittanys are also used to find illegal foods sent in to the country via the sniff dogs program.
