Keeshond - Purebred
Dogs and Puppies

Keeshond

The extremely affectionate Keeshond (KAZE-hond) is a member of the Non-Sporting Group and is the national dog of Holland. Also sometimes referred to as "The Smiling Dutchman", it is a very happy, medium-sized, furry little dog.

Its closest dog relative is probably the tiny Pomeranian. It is also a member of the spitz group of dogs.

The breed is well known for its "spectacles," a delicate dark line running from the outer corner of each eye toward the lower corner of each ear, as well as for the wolf like color of the breed.

When this breed joins a family he looks forward to being an important part of it as well as a sensible watchdog.

He loves children very much and will gladly play games and bounce around with them.

Generally, this hardy breed is around 17 inches tall for females and the males are around 18 inches and weigh 45 pounds or less.

Keeshonds are good with both children and other pets and the best home for this breed is one where the dog will be an integral part of daily family life with only small amounts of "alone" time.

Country of origin: Holland
Lifespan: 12-14 years
Colors: A mixture of gray, black and cream
Known health problems: Luxating patellas, hormone-related coat problems, allergies, epilepsy, heart conditions
