The Giant Schnauzer is the largest of the three Schnauzer dog breeds. The name Schnauzer translates to mean "snout" and was chosen for the breed because of the Giants snout and whiskers. The Giant Schnauzer is considered a groomed breed, meaning that it does need regular coat maintenance. Giant males typically range from 80-100 pounds each while and females range from 60- 80 pounds. During the '30s, the first Giant Schnauzers were imported to the United States. The Giant Schnauzer is a natural born guard dog. The Giant Schnauzer needs lots of exercise. Highly intelligent, the Giant excels in many different forms of activity such as agility, police work, and obedience.
