Japanese Chin -
Purebred Dogs and Puppies

The Japanese Chin is a very old member of the AKC Toy Group. He is a playful dog breed and loves to make up his own tricks to show off to his audience of friends. They are also known by the name, Japanese Spaniel.

This little dog breed is a spaniel and shares many common traits with the King Charles Spaniel that also originated in Japan. The Chin is well known for its small, square body with a pushed-in face and protruding eyes.

This breed of dog has always been, first and foremost, a companion dog. These dogs can be extremely mischievious and clownlike. Unlike many of it's small dog cousins, however, this breed is typically not a barker.

Generally, the Chin dog breed is divided into 2 weight groups - above 7 pounds and below 7 pounds and are 8-11 inches tall.

The Japanese Chin was originally developed in China and later introduced into Japan many centuries ago. He was a favorite dog breed of the Japanese emperors.

Considered royalty to the Japanese, the Chin is very bright, alert and likes to be clean and tidy. They are very cat-like, sensitive, have a profuse coat that requires daily brushing and an occasional trim.

Like many other short-faced dog breeds, the Japanese Spaniel tends to wheeze and snore. Additionally, they are prone to eye and respiratory problems. They can also be difficult to housebreak.

Chin are good with mature children and other pets but should be protected around large dogs. They are happy, affectionate, playful and make a loyal family pet. They also enjoy being the center of attention. Exercise requirements are quite low making them perfect apartment dogs and the perfect pet for a single or elderly person.
