Purebred Dog Breed of the Month

• The Japanese Chin is also called the Japanese Spaniel.

• This breed is much more obedient than most toy dog breeds and learn learning tricks well.

• Despite its name, this dog is probably native to Korea.

• The Japanese Spaniel was renamed "Japanese Chin" by the AKC in 1977.

• This dog breed is often considered one of the most cat-like of the dog breeds.

• Commodore Perry helped make this dog famous in England in 1853 when he presented a breeding pair to Queen Victoria upon returning from Japan.

• This breed has little or no odor.

• Chin tend to groom themselves by licking their paws and rubbing their faces.

• Chin often "snizzle" or snort.

• The Japanese Chin has a typical life expectancy of 10-12 years with some living 15 years or more.
