Ibizan Hound Purebred Dog Breed Information
A member of the Hound Group, The Ibizan Hound is an even tempered, affectionate, loyal, extremely versatile and very trainable dog. The Ibizan's clean-cut lines, large prick ears, and light pigment give it a very unique appearance.
Ibizan history is traceable back to approximately 3400 B.C. and was drawn on rock, stone, and papyrus. He was a favorite among the Egyptians, Phoenicians, and Romans for his ability to locate rabbits and other small game animals by sight and then run them down.
He makes an excellent family pet, and is well suited to the breed ring, obedience, tracking, and lure-coursing. Keep in mind that they can be dog-aggressive and do have a high prey drive toward small animals. Obedience training, socialization and training should all begin early in the puppies life.
He exhibits a keen, natural hunting instinct with much determination and stamina in the field. These Hounds are very neat dogs who clean themselves much like cats.
The Ibizan is friendlier overall than a Saluki or a Borzoi, however, they do have a temperament more similar to that of the Whippet. Though they are affectionate with his owners, they do not need or desire constant attention like many dog breeds.

It is recommended that owners of these dogs have fences at least 6' in height. The Ibizan Hound is even-tempered, affectionate, loyal, and friendly, and makes an excellent family pet.
Best home: A quiet, predictable home, such as an apartment is fine as long as this dog receives plenty of exercise. The best owner would be a calm, confident and patient owner who has plenty of time to socialize the dog.
