Yorkshire Terrier

• The Yorkshire Terrier was developed in the 1800s in the area of Yorkshire England.

• The breed also answers to the nickname of Yorkie.

• This little breed of dog is highly energy, brave and quite unaware of it's own size - it thinks it is a big dog.

• The Yorkie can be a very good dog breed of choice for apartment life.

• Believe it or not but these are very active little dogs, who need both exercise as well as daily walks.

• Life expectancy can easily be around 12-15 years.

• Regular grooming is a must with this little dog to keep the coat in tip top shape.

• Compared to many dog breeds, the Yorkie is quite young overall - this dog breed is only around 100 years old.

• Originally the Yorkshire Terrier was developed for catching the rats and badgers and even foxes in the mining area of north England.

• The original Yorkies were much bigger than the ones we see today, but have been gradually miniaturized over the years through selective breeding practices.
