heavy dog. They possess great energy and eagerness for the hunt yet are controllable in the field. The Clumber is a loyal and affectionate dog; sometimes reserved with strangers, but never hostile or timid. His heavy brow, deep chest, straight forelegs, powerful hindquarters, massive bone, and good feet all give him the power and endurance to move through dense underbrush in pursuit of game. His white coat enables him to be seen by the hunter as he works well within gun range. His stature is dignified, his expression pensive, but at the same time, he shows great enthusiasm for work and play. The Clumber Spaniel is a versatile hunting dog and is a fantastic retriever when trained. Their overall demeanor indicates intelligence, an eagerness to please their master, as well as a great deal of friendliness.

They are good with children and other pets as well and the best home for them is inside with the family with regular exercise and weekly grooming sessions - including cleaning the ears. "Disadvantages" of owning a Clumber Spaniel are often said to be: snoring, constant shedding, drooling (especially after getting a drink), and a particularly inventive mind - able to easily raid cabinets, kitchen counters, and even the refrigerator if given the opportunity. Clumber puppies are said to be particularly curious and inventive as well. They possess a very strong urge to carry something in their mouths at all times, especially with their owners scent on it, which could easily lead to many missing shoes, socks or other pieces of clothing - anything which the Clumber could deem as being "toy-worthy". Typically clumber males are around 19-20 inches tall and weigh 70-85 pounds; females are around 17-19 inches tall and weigh around 55-70 pounds. Country of origin: France and England
