Chow - Purebred
Dogs and Puppies

A member of the Non-sporting group, the Chow, this all-purpose dog of China, was used for hunting, herding, pulling, and protection of the home. They can be traced back to at least 150 B.C.

Recent DNA analysis confirms that this is one of the oldest breeds of dog and that probably they originated in somewhere in Siberia or Mongolia.

Typically this dog breed weighs around 45 - 70 pounds in weight and are 17 - 20 inches tall at the shoulder. Just so you'll know, this breed is a seasonal heavy shedder and the coat will require at least weekly grooming sessions - more often when they are blowing coat.

A powerful, sturdy, stocky built, upstanding dog of Arctic type, this dog breed is medium in size with strong muscular development and heavy bone. The body is compact, short coupled, broad and deep, the tail set high and carried closely to the back.

Clothed in a smooth or an off-standing rough double coat, the dog is a masterpiece of beauty, dignity, and naturalness, unique in his blue-black tongue, scowling expression, and stilted gait.

Highly intelligent, they are a possessive dog breed who endears his family and their possessions to him and is a wonderful companion for adults who will take the time to care for them properly.

Generally speaking, these dogs dislike other dogs of the same breed and other dogs of the same sex, and must be socialized with children and many other experiences at an early age. Best home: inside to avoid heatstroke.
