Avoiding Dog Bites

Bouvier

Do you know the best ways for avoiding dog bites? No one wants to be bitten by a dog but do you really know how to recognize any warning signs before a bite happens?

Before a dog bites he will give off warning signs.

If you learn how to read these signs and respond to them accordingly you can learn how to prevent a dog bite before it happens.

Normally dogs make sure that these warning signs are very clear by using body language - especially if they feel frightened or threatened.

If a dog is upset, it's really important to pay close attention to their body signals - watch and listen to any warning signs a dog gives you. Normally a healthy dog will never bite without being provoked first. But if your dog were to bite without provocation, please seek professional help immediately.

Not everyone can "read" their dog. But knowing how to read warning signs ahead of time can be very helpful. So, for that reason, below I'll list several of the most common warning signs to watch for in your dog to avoid being bitten:

• If a dog's fur is raised up with his ears erect and tail held high.

• If a dog growls or barks aggressively while showing his teeth.

• If a dog's ears are pulled back closely against his head.

• If a dogs legs are very, very stiff.

• If a dog looks directly at a human's face in a very intent matter.

• If a dog lowers its tail (while holding it stiffly) and wags it slowly.

• If a dog is snarling with its teeth uncovered.

• If a dog is cowering.

• If a dog’s tail is tucked completely under his body.

• If a dog gets up and moves away from you.

• If a dog turns his head away from you.
