April 08 dog breed of the month -
French Bulldog

French Bulldog

April 2008 Purebred Dog Breed of the Month

• The French Bulldog is also referred to as the Frenchie.

• They are well known for their naturally occurring 'bat ears' that are wide at the base and rounded on the top.

• This breed thrives on companionship and will not thrive without it.

• Be aware that French Bulldogs are prone to eye and respiratory problems.

• Frenchies are super sensitive to temperature extremes. Remember, overheating in this dog can easily lead to heat stroke.

• Overall, Frenchies prefer cooler climates.

• Frenchies are fantastic companion dogs.

• Frenchies take to apartment living quite easily and need occasional walks to be happy.

• These guys can snore and some are rather loud at it.

• Due to the French Bulldog shape and those large puppy heads, Frenchies are quite often born by c-section while in a veterinarian hospital.

• The French Bulldog has minimal exercise requirements, although it is a fun-loving dog - it really enjoys a romp outdoors from time to time.

• Remember, keep your French Bulldog cool in the summer!
