a member of the Terrier Group. They were one of the first breeds used for police duty in Germany and Great Britain. Their coat is tan with black markings on the sides and upper parts of the body. They were originally bred to hunt otters. They are intelligent enough to quickly learn what is required of it, but will easily become bored or simply refuse all together if you ask it to do the same thing over and over again. Due to this inherent "Airedale stubborness", they can often be difficult to train, and require constant re-inforcement throughout training.

The coat is dense and wiry; it requires a great deal of grooming and may need professional help to maintain. They are a good natured and fun-loving breed of dog but are not recommended for apartment life. They do need plenty of exercise and are fairly energetic. Dogs measure approximately 23 inches in height at the shoulder; bitches, slightly less. Both sexes should be sturdy, well muscled, and boned. Country of origin: York More Airedale Information
